Well, after our last couple of snowfalls here in the Grand Rapids area totaling about 14″ followed up with a couple of -15 to -18 nights and two days of snowplowing on the 4-wheeler, I decided the only thing that would cheer me up would be to start thinking about the upcoming season.
Last fall we stripped and started re-staining Cabin 4. Almost got her done when three weeks of rain and some early snow in October put an end to that. It won’t take much in the Spring to get it done, though, and then on to Cabin 2! We did, however, manage to sneak a new front door onto Cabin 2 before the snow set in.
I’ve been spending the winter months making some new knotty pine coffee tables, nightstands, end tables and mirror frames. I’m hoping to get at some headboards but time will tell. The side benefit to the furniture making is that it made me clean out my work shop and I actually found tools I have been missing since about 2009. It was like Christmas every day there for awhile.
I’ve also been working on a couple of more holes of mini-golf for this year, another outdoor Jenga set and have been looking at some new ideas for some yard games that should be a big hit. More on that in a later blog.
On a sadder note, we won’t have our daughter Molly playing guitar and singing at campfire donut night this year. She is moving to Duluth in June for a new job. Hopefully we will have some musical guests to fill in the gap this year. If you play and/or sing we would love to hear you this year!
Anyway, if you are getting cabin fever we have some winter openings. With all the snow, the snowmobile clubs are out grooming so riding should be some of the best we’ve had this early in many a year. Reports are that the south end of Bass Lake is kicking out good numbers of bluegills, crappies, northerns and the occasional walleye. Whether you want to fish, ride or just sit by the fireplace with a good book, give us a call at 218-246-8989. If you are looking for a great summer Minnesota family resort vacation we can help you there, too!
